Abstract: This study is concerned with a construction in Maltese which consists of a sequence of two or more finite verbs. This construction is frequent in both spoken and written Maltese. The present study focuses on sequences consisting of two verbs. A sample of 500 chains of type V1+V2 was collected using the Maltese Language Resource Server (MLRS) corpus of written Maltese. Some of these chains are analyzed in order to shed light on the nature of the verb sequence and to explain the acceptability or unacceptability of some combinations.
