This chapter considers peace from the perspective of Antonio Gramsci’s conceptual re-elaboration of Vincenzo Cuoco’s idea of passive revolution. It opens by giving a definition of peace that is somewhat different from that commonly and implicitly found in ordinary discourse. A more qualified understanding of peace is proposed. In relation to this, the chapter defines the concept of passive revolution and applies it to some concrete historical cases.en_GB
