Abstract: | Pastoral music commonly represents rural life and its atmosphere. It is generally accepted that Italian musicians and composers of the 17th and 18th centuries developed various motifs linked to this type of music for Christmas Eve, which later became widespread in European music. Maltese composers have also composed music to honour this significant celebration in the Christian calendar. |
