Abstract: What is singing voice production? What is the function of vocal warm-up? What does a warm-up routine consist of? Which warm-up exercises, tools, or routines could be beneficial in preparation for particular repertoire? These questions will be discussed in this dissertation, which is an accompanying document to the final recital. These questions will be discussed with reference to established literature from the diverse vocal and singing research fields, as well as through self-reflection of my own experience. Following an introduction in Chapter 1, Chapter 2 will explore the mechanisms of the singing voice, presenting a model for singing voice production. Chapter 3 will review the literature on vocal warm-up, whilst Chapter 4 will present my process of gathering warm-up tools and exercises in preparation for the repertoire presented in my final recital. Chapter 5 will serve as a conclusion to this document.
