Abstract: The aim of this research project is to explore whether Secondary, Post-Secondary and Tertiary students can understand better Science through the use of mathematical modelling and simulations of real-life situations. For this study, we used a digital computer software called ‘Insight’. This software makes use of mathematical modelling and simulations of everyday life situations. The participants consisted of two groups of B.Ed. (Hons.) 3rd year Science students who were presented with some Science concepts using this software. The sessions presented were observed and audio recorded. The same participants of the two groups were then divided into small focus groups, five groups in all, to provide insight on their feedback about the use of the software. Additionally, interviews with four SEC and four Post-Secondary level Science teachers also provided insight into the use of mathematical modelling and simulations in the teaching and learning of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Furthermore, the appropriate students’ age groups to use mathematical modelling was also discussed.
