The use of space for residential purposes is dynamically related to the physical and social environment. Changes in that environment affect the utilization of space. Changes in the man-built environment resulting from shifts in the pattern of utilization of space affect social behaviour. I would like to illustrate the symbiotic relation between the social and the man-built environment by looking at the changing use of residential space in Malta, especially since 1960.en_GB
