Abstract: This paper traces the development of the treatment of alcoholism in Malta, from its early origins in the mid-1980s to more recent efforts in this regard. More specifically, it explores sedqa's role in the establishment of community- based alcohol treatment services. It focuses on the nature of the philosophy and approach adoptedby these services and highlights the benefits derived from the decision to shift towards community care.
