Abstract: This paper provides a background against which preventive media campaigns can be evaluated. The role of TV in media campaigns, with a particular focus on programmes aimed at children, is discussed. The author also proposes a local, children's TV production, 'OWKEJ!', as an example of media use in preventive campaigns. The declared aims of the programme and the producers' interpretations of these aims are examined in light of the precept that children's TV can be a powerful tool in the service of preventive media campaign planners and implementers. Finally, potential developments in the media are considered.
