| Abstract: | When Malta was given to the Knights Hospitallers, the office of the Secrezia fell under the direct and personal control of the Grand Master. The Secreto was appointed by the Grand Master from among the Maltese noble gentlemen who were serving the Order in the administration of the Islands. Hence the Office carded with it honours, prestige and particular duties which made the Office one of the best positions which men of ability and amibition hoped to achieve. |
