Abstract: Objectives: The objectives of the project were to record the values of CKAP and CAK1RP and fluoroscopic time during pacemaker implants of adult patients at a general hospital cardiac catetherization suite in Malta, compare the mean values with corresponding values in the international literature, observe how these values vary with patient size, pacemaker and suggest room Diagnostic Reference Levels. Research Design: For 17 procedures concerning three different types of pacemakers (single, dual and temporary), the CKAP, CAK1RP and fluoroscopy times were recorded. The level of correlation of CKAP and the CAK1RP and fluoroscopy time with patient size parameters were investigated using standard statistical methods. Results: The main results of the project were: • The average values of CAK1RP and CKAP were 0.0897Gy and 7.28Gycm2 respectively, for the category of standard sized patients that underwent a dual pacemaker implantation. These values were generally lower than those found in the literature. • The average values for CAK and C KAPrRP for standard patients were set as room DRL s. However, in view of the low patient sample size these values should be considered provisional. Conclusion: In view of the low patient sample size it is recommended that a more extended study be carried out.
