Abstract: The aim of this study is to explore nurses' knowledge about smoking cessation. The objectives are, to investigate: • the level of smoking cessation information received (if any) by the nurses, • if nurses' perceive smoking cessation interventions as part of their role, • the nurses' awareness on smoking cessation, • the level of nurses' knowledge about smoking cessation, • if nurses feel that they have enough knowledge about smoking cessation. This study involved a random selection of twenty-one nurses from three conveniently selected medical wards. Seventeen nurses completed the questionnaire. Results revealed that most nurses did not receive a high level of information about smoking cessation. However, some nurses have a basic knowledge about the general topics associated with smoking cessation. Findings suggest that, nurses require further information on the use of the different types of therapies available. Some nurses highlight that they require more information about smoking cessation to help a patient stop smoking.
