Abstract: Today it is taken-for-grantedness, but this wasn't 100 years ago: Fred Wiseman flew on 17 February 1911 from Petaluma to Santa Rosa (California) and on board he carried three covers. This was the first airmail carried by an airplane. The next day, on 18 February 1911, the first official airmail was carried between Allahabad and Naini in India. Both events mark the beginning of airmail transportation, and both first flights happened just 100 years ago... [excerpt]
