Abstract: This dissertation sets out to investigate how multiculturalism is being integrated into the Primary school curriculum in Malta. Interviews with Heads, Assistant Heads and teachers and focus groups which involved local parents and children, and foreign parents and children clearly showed that schools are only paying lip service to multicultural education and a number of parents look with suspicion on multicultural education. On the other hand the teachers interviewed are working very hard on their own in the classroom, researching and using their own resources to deliver an effective multicultural education for the benefit of all class children. Children welcome foreign children with enthusiasm. After having discussed the data gathered from these primary sources in the light of a related literature review, the research drew its conclusions and put forward a number of proposals to integrate multiculturalism into the primary school curriculum effectively, namely each school needs to set up a multicultural policy, the Education Directorate has to provide schools with appropriate resources and training for teachers, and schools have to educate parents in this regard.
