Abstract: The dissertation seeks to elaborate upon the theological content and teachings with regard to the sacrament of the anointing of the sick. In doing so, the following will be investigated: the biblical foundations, brief history and church magisterium through the ages culminating in the reforms found in the post-conciliar documents published during the Pontificate of Pope Paul VI. The healing ministry of Jesus as handed down to his disciples will be evaluated. These prophetic actions of Jesus are extended and shown through the liturgical and pastoral administration of the sacrament.
