Abstract: The dissertation seeks to examine and assess the theology of the paschal mystery in the writings of Hans Urs von Balthasar (1905-1988). The vital relationship of this theme to the mystery of the Trinity in his writings will be highlighted. For the Swiss theologian, the doctrine of the Trinity has its origin and centre in the events of the days of the Sacrum Triduum. The dissertation starts by contextualising the author: his academic and social milieu as well as the friendship and inspiration of some contemporaries. Then, it considers the drama of Jesus' paschal mystery and the mystery resonating throughout the works under study as well as the role of the paschal mystery in von Balthasar's Trinitarian theology. Finally, the dissertation affirms that the Christian is called to experience and live the paschal mystery himself by being a contemplative in action.
