Gozo

Abstract

The pattern of this book is very similar to that used in Malta: A History and a Guide. Firstly there are a number of chapters outlining the history of Gozo which are intended to provide a background against which the reader may appreciate the island's present day landscape. These general chapters are followed by a short description of some of the places worth visiting in the island today. Many people have given me assistance with the writing of this short book. The staffs of the Royal Malta Library and the Royal Malta University Library, .under the direction of Dr. De Pasquale and Mr. Joseph Montalto respectively have continued to be exceptionally helpful and encouraging. Again my thanks are due to Chev. Joseph Galea and to Mr. John Jowett. I am indebted to Miss Judy Hudson for typing the manuscript. Friends in the Times of Malta, the Malta Government Tourist Board and the Public Works Department, Valletta were kind enough to help with the selection of illustrations. Mr. R. Agius de Soldanis, the eighteenth century Gozitan historian, who wrote prolifically about the island and whose works are now stored in the Royal Malta Library.
