Abstract: | ▪ Romania is a country with a high seismic risk and before 1963, when first seismic
design code was used, the RC structures were designed only to resist gravitational
loads mainly. Later, new codes were drafted (e.g. 1978, 1991, 2006) the last one
being aligned with Eurocode 8T. ▪ The aim of this study case is the Performance Based Seismic Design (PBSD) of a non-seismic RC moment resisting frame (MRF) (see Fig. 1a) before and after upgrading it. The upgrading consist of a global one (see Fig. 1b) represented by adding an inverted V steel buckling - restrained braces (BRB), by a local upgrade by confining with fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) the columns from the first two levels (see Fig. 1c) and a combination of the two methods (see Fig. 1d).
