Abstract: Background: Due to various inadequate prenatal storage and vitamin K deficiency in breast milk, newborns are at risk of vitamin K deficiency bleeding. Since vitamin K is a blood-clotting agent, preventing vitamin K deficiency bleeding is critical. The role of vitamin K in preventing vitamin K deficiency bleeding will be explored in this dissertation. Research Question: Should vitamin K prophylaxis be given to all neonates to prevent vitamin K deficiency bleeding? Method: Alternative terms were developed using fundamental elements of the PICO question as keywords. These terms were combined using Boolean Operators. Limiters, such as the English language, were used to narrow down the search results. The two databases, EBSCO and PubMed, were used to search for the combined words.
