Abstract: A doctor declares his patient dead. Another human being has ceased to exist. Has this person come to nothing, like any other creature? Has death annihilated another 'superior creature'? Atheists, materialists, indeed all unbelievers, willingly or otherwise have to admit death's dominion. Death is the complete victor over man. It overcomes all and everything. It is the supreme annihilation. Believers, irrespective of their religions have another conception of death. Death signifies a movement towards a different mode of existence. Death is a door opening onto a hopefully better world. Since the beginning of time man's trials have made him look forward to future bliss. Religions have provided him with diverse ways of attaining this happiness. Christianity, in line with most religions, believes that death provides the only means to realise man's yearning for a better world. The Christian has a positive view of death. Death is not annihilation but an introduction. This belief is not an empty hope, a puerile fantasy. The Christian believes that the age of victory over death has already begun. with Christ's resurrection.
