Abstract: | The aim of this study was to evaluate the fieldwork module of the Diploma in Youth Studies Course such that improvement can take place. It focuses on four main points: the fieldwork aims and objectives; the preparation of course participants to carry out their placement; the major difficulties encountered by the students; and the quality of the supervision. Time and method triangulation has been used to collect data. Two questionnaires were handed out to the course participants, one before and the other after the first fieldwork placement. Use has also been made of an evaluation session held by the course participants. Structured interviews were carried out with three supervisors of the first fieldwork placement and with three course participants regarding their second fieldwork placement. The second chapter presents the data analysis and interpretation of the information gathered. The evaluation indicates that for most students the fieldwork placement was a positive learning experience. A number of recommendations and suggestions, which I hope the Institute of Youth Studies will take note of, conclude this work. |
