Abstract: In 1987, Paulo Freire, who for years had been capturing the imagination of educators world-wide with his pedagogical writings, published his first "talking book" in the English language. It involved a conversation on transformative education with Ira Shor. One of the three other "talking books" that ensued is the transcribed conversation with Antonio Faundez, the others being Literacy: Reading the Word and the World, a conversation with Donaldo Macedo, and We Make the Road by Walking: Conversations on Education and Social Change, an intellectual and biographical exchange with the late Myles Horton.
