Abstract: Naples in Carnival Time (Napoli di carnevale) is a comic opera in three acts of Nicola De Giosa composed on a libretto by Marco d'Arienzo. The first performance was at the Teatro Nuovo in Naples, 28 December 1876.
The main characters of this opera are D. Gasperone dei Lumaconi, Themistocles - his nephew, Xenophon - a schoolfellow of Themistocles, Febino - a waiter at a coffee-house and Trebellio - a bailiff who is in love with Hippolita the shoemaker. Then there is Candida, the daughter of Hippolita and Rosalba, Hippolita's sister. The scene is laid at Naples in 1820.
